A Journal of the Plague Year tells us, according to a Londoner’s account, what happened in London during the plague wave that hit the city between 1665 – 1666 taking the lives of 100,000 people, which was then a quarter of the population of the city.
The narrator also speaks of some actions taken by people to prevent plague from spreading, and how the rich left the city to surrounding towns until plague disappeared, and how another group didn’t care about the danger of the plague, and how a third group followed the quacks’ myths regarding protection from plague, which caused them to die horribly because of their ignorance and naivety.
You will also find in this book many events look like what we face today after the book was first published almost 300 years ago. The book gives an idea about the number of fatalities according to the bills that were published weekly.
