After twenty years of issuing the Indicators Reports, the International Organization for Migration has accumulated ten reports that illustrate the development of the phenomenon of international migration and asylum in the world. The “MIGRATION REPORT 2020: Providing perspective on migration and mobility in increasingly uncertain times” represents the accumulated experience of the organization, and provides a clearer picture of the state of migration worldwide, and how it has developed over the past two decades.
Despite the voluminosity of the report, with almost 500 pages in the English version, and despite its ramifications in topics and data, and the diversity of its methods of presentation and analysis, we have not yet found the optimal strategy to deal with the phenomenon of global and evolving migration. However, the report presents a huge amount of information, data and analysis that were collected by the organization over the past 20 years, which can be used in conducting more research and studies that may facilitate addressing the problems associated with the phenomenon of international migration.
The issues include the geographical distribution of migration, the causes of migration, ranging from natural factors such as disasters and environmental changes or human factors such as struggles and conflicts or economic motives and social welfare demands, without ignoring the humanitarian aspects, such as: children and women.
Later on, in light of international ethics and human rights charters, and with a focus on the Arab and Islamic worlds concerning this phenomenon, the researcher attempts to provide a critical reading of the report. Hence, identifying the dimensions of human security for migration, and the causal relationship between the phenomenon of migration, asylum and political, social and economic factors, either local or global.
